Say what you want about Sabathia’s recent struggles, but his mere presence on the mound will galvanize the Yankees on Wednesday, especially after their upset series-opening loss to the Tigers. It’s pretty inspirational considering Sabathia’s age and his willingness to put his body through the grinder to be available for his team in hopes of achieving something special.
It should also help that he’s pitching against the worst offensive team in baseball. The Tigers have a functioning slash line of .239/.293/.388 on the season, and they are also averaging only 3.94 runs per game, which is worse than any other team in the league. If there’s any team Sabathia can turn back the clock against, it would be the Tigers.
